Imagine your child writing an e email they never send and that draft is being scoopet to some surveillance company’s database. That’s exactly what happened to this teenager was suspended. Creepy doesn’t even start covering it.

📱 Yes they also look at home

About 36% of companies monitor student-owned devices. All it takes is a school-required app, plug-in or software.

Late-Might YouTube Binges, Private DMS and Social Media Posts could trigger a red flag on some dashboard.

📌 Questions that any parent should ask school

But you and your children need to understand exactly how they work and what happens to the data. Copy these questions and late an e email to the school’s administration or set up a meeting in person.

  1. Does our school use GoGuardian, bark, gaggle, securly, lightspeed or any online surveillance service? What exactly do they track?
  2. Monitoring personal devices at home?
  3. What happens if my child is marked? How can I see my child’s dashboard?
  4. How long is student data stored and can parents request deletion?
  5. Is student data ever sold, shared or used for something beyond surveillance?

Make sure your children know that everything they do on the school’s issued device is fair game. And depending on the setup, their personal phone or laptop could also be tracked. This system can protect, but they also raise big questions about privacy and supervision.

Does this happen to your children’s school? Drop has noticed me. I would very much like to talk to you about it.
