Kirkland asks associate questions that have people wondering about

Big changes rarely happen quickly at BigLaw companies. Even before the rank-and-file staff catches the wind of something, there is usually much discussion and analysis that takes place at management level. So when the world’s Richet Law Firm, Kirkland & Ellis, made a change in standard review assessments, it caused tongues to cradle.

Kirkland recently sent their associated audit question. And tipsters at the company noticing a new addition to this year’s form that asked:

Work Plan: As a reminder, a fixed policy on the waiting time in the office is Tuesday to Thursday each week. For the associated review, you must specify a general description of yours in the office Wait for the past transmission period so that the Committee may consider this information as they review any data reports and information.

Back in 2022, Kirkland rolled out their three days a week, but by 2025 more and more companies are pushing for employees to be in office four or even five days a week. Now that the company asks questions about, Tipsters see exactly what it is foreshadowing. As an insider told above the law, “for the first time they are now asking for the office waiting, which appears to be the first step to demand more in the office’s expectation.”

But of course this can be a prequel to something and punitive. While it is far from the industry worm, several companies have threatened (or even reviewed) docking-associated bonuses if they whistle on the requirements.

… Now the company might just try to take associated temperatures and seize data on how the police work. It’s a pretty pollyanna roof, but it can be true.
